A Story of Renewal & Hope:
The Roots of Transformation:
Our journey is rooted in the rich coffee heritage of Chiapas. This initiative emerged in response to the devastating rust epidemic of 2013-2014, which severely impacted coffee producers. The project aimed to restore coffee plots and bring new life to the region by transforming a cattle ranch into a shaded coffee farm.
Overcoming challenges
Transitioning from cattle grazing to coffee cultivation presented significant challenges. The land, compacted by years of grazing, required extensive efforts to prepare it for coffee farming. Initial setbacks included investment losses and the arduous task of soil decompaction. Many coffee plants had to be uprooted and replanted to achieve the desired results.
Commitment to Sustainability
A pivotal element in this transformation was obtaining Rainforest Alliance certification. This certification provided a structured sustainability framework that guided the efforts towards supporting small producers and ensuring a sustainable future for the coffee industry. The acquisitions of La Lomita and La Ventana further solidified the sustainable model farm project.
